2002 dodge dakota review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Dodge strategically promotes the dakota as the biggest, most powerful, most capable compact pickup on the market. Or as shakespeare might have put it: a dakota by any other name would be precisely the same size. While some competitive extended cabs feature short auxiliary doors behind the main doors, the dakota club cab comes with two doors only.  regular and club cabs are offered in three trim levels: base, sport and slt. Base regular cab 2wd retails for $14,810; sport regular cab 2wd goes for $15,855; and slt regular cab sells for $16,415. Sport adds better seats and interior trim and upgrades to the exterior. Slt comes with v6 power, gray fascias, and bright bumpers and grille. Quad cabs start at the sport level, powered by the v6.  the new sxt model, available only with a regular or club cab, adds 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear stabilizer bar, cloth bucket seats, carpeting, and special graphite metallic exterior trim. A 120-horsepower, 2. 5-liter inline-4 is standard on regular and club cabs in base or sport trim. Slt's and all quad cabs come with a 175-horsepower 3. 9-liter v6. Rounding out the option list are a 235-horsepower 4. 7-liter v8, and a 5. 9-liter v8 that produces 245 or 250 horsepower, depending on model. Manual transmissions are offered with all but the 5. 9. The other is a full-time system that emphasizes all-weather traction.  the r/t group adds $2,190 to the cost of a regular or club cab, and features a high-performance version of the 5. 9-liter v8. R/t's also pack aggressive (255/55r17) blackwall tires on 17-inch aluminum wheels, heavy-duty stabilizer bars, a lowered (by one inch) handling-oriented suspension, limited-slip rear differential, bucket seats, a floor console, fog lights, special trim and a long list of convenience items. walkarounddakota shares its freightliner styling with the full-size dodge ram. Bold lines give it a big, burly look, like it's ready to take on anything that comes its way.  regular and club cabs have a 6-foot 6-inch bed, a good size for a compact truck. The quad cab, on the other hand, has a 5-foot 3-inch bed. According to dodge, people seldom need the full length of the longer bed. Those who need more cargo space can consider an optional bed extender, an aluminum cage that flips over the lowered tailgate to extend the bed by 18 inches. Sometimes the bed extender works great, but a lowered tailgate with a mesh opening won't hold dirt back like longer bed with a solid tailgate. The instrument panel was made easier to reach and easier to use, and almost all of the switchgear was changed. A notable example is the rotary dial for the electrically controlled transfer case, replacing the lever used previously. Door trim and carpeting were updated, as were the center and overhead consoles. Leather became an option on quad cabs, where it costs an extra $580 in 2002. A three-channel home security transceiver joins the option list.  visibility from inside the dakota quad cab is outstanding. The driver sits high and there are no obvious blind spots. Optional 6x9-inch mirrors improve visibility rearward. The quad cab is roomy and comfortable. The wide console works well as a storage area for miscellaneous junk, but it gets in the way when fastening seat belts. A pullout cup holder at the foot of the center section is a nice touch. The driver and front seat passenger had tons of legroom.  the rear doors open wide - about 37 inches. Getting in and out of the rear seat is aided by the fact that there is no cutout for the rear wheels (like there is in many sport-utilities). But a lack of clearance for heads and feet make getting out a bit more difficult than it should be.  the rear seating area in the dakota quad cab is roomier than that of any other compact truck. But that only makes it the best of a bad lot, and legroom, particularly, is limited. There's good knee room, and plenty of headroom, but not a lot of foot space, so don't plan on stretching out. As in most of the smaller ``crew cab' pickups, the rear seat back is bolt upright and not very comfortable. Children and smaller adults should be happy enough back there, but taller folk will find the space confining. It also featured a trip computer and odometer that reports fuel economy and fuel tank range. We hit one particularly sandy section and switched easily into 4wd without dropping speed. Later, on a steep hill, we switched into 4wd-low and easily walked up a good 15 degree grade.  only on washboard stretches of hard-packed dirt roads did the back end tend to lose its grip at speed - and even then only in two-wheel-drive mode. That's a fault common to most unloaded pickups. We were impressed with the quad cab's turning radius. For a truck its length, it makes relatively tight turns.  the brakes deliver straight and true stopping power. This transmission was designed in tandem with the 4. 7-liter engine and they are precisely calibrated to each other, with an onboard computer continuously adjusting the shift pattern to match the way the truck is driven. A 3. 0:1 low ratio provides plenty of leverage to get rolling, followed by a shift up into a torquy 1. 67:1 second. But a kickdown from direct-drive third engages a higher-speed second ratio of 1. 50:1, which dodge says is better for passing. Along with the hauling capability of the bed, it's almost like having two vehicles in one.  if yo. Anti-lock Brakes✔ Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM✔ Aluminum Wheels✔ Alloy Wheels

2010 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Family hauler. introductionthe dodge grand caravan is all about transporting people comfortably, efficiently and safely, while keeping them entertained. Its designers focused on interior creature comforts, such as the popular stow 'n go seating system. Stow 'n go consists of bins in the floor behind the first row of seats, and folding second-row seats that can be folded into those bins, resulting in a flat load floor for easily carrying larger objects. Or, when the seats are up in the normal seating position, the bins can accommodate toys, games, sporting gear, tools or whatever.  another popular feature is swivel 'n go seating, with second-row chairs that swivel to the rear and a table that fits between those seats and the third-row bench, thus allowing up to five people to face each other around the table. It's great for keeping the kids entertained on a trip, for getting in a little work, or having an on-road conference. Other available features include a video system with one or two rear screens, wireless headphones, and remote control; a spot to plug in a laptop; power sliding side doors and power liftgate; and the capability to download music to a hard-drive sound system. Or, if need be, all the seats can be folded flat and the grand caravan can accept a sheet of plywood or some bales of hay.  the grand caravan's suspension delivers a nice, smooth ride, though it can sometimes wallow. It's more about comfort and safety than carlike precision. Electronic stability control is standard, and the grand caravan has performed well in government crash tests. The handling is a bit cumbersome, not surprising, given the grand caravan's size. It doesn't go around corners as well as the honda odyssey and nissan quest. It leans in hard turns, so drivers will have to be careful not to upset whatever activities are going on in back.  three v6 engines are available. Next is a 3. 8-liter v6 of 197 horsepower. The 3. 8 and 4. 0-liter engines have a six-speed automatic. We found the base 3. 3-liter engine can struggle with freeway on-ramps. The 3. 8-liter engine is acceptable, though we think the 4. 0-liter v6 is the best choice.  the few changes for 2010 include front-seat active head restraints, three-zone climate controls are now standard on the se trim level, a rear-obstacle detection display is available, and the 4. 0-liter engine is fitted with a revised final-drive ratio, which improves fuel economy.  the grand caravan's unique cargo and entertainment features make it a strong contender in the minivan class. Families will like it, especially because those entertainment features will make for more enjoyable family trips. Seating is two-two-three, with stow 'n go (second- and third-row seats fold flat, into the floor) standard. Options exclusive to the se include package 24g 1,070) with power front windows and third-row vents, tachometer, trip computer, outside-temperature indicator, compass, and alloy wheels. The popular equipment group 1,495) adds power-adjustable pedals, power-sliding rear doors, and a power rear liftgate. An entertainment group 2,120) includes a 30-gigabyte hard-drive radio, six-disc cd changer, 6. 5-inch touch-screen display, a rear dvd entertainment system with a single nine-inch screen, six speakers, a 115-volt power outlet, rear park assist, and sirius satellite radio. A roof rack is also offered 250).  the grand caravan sxt 26,730) has the 197-hp 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 with a six-speed transaxle. Sxt equipment includes leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, power-adjustable pedals, power sliding rear doors, sirius satellite radio, trip computer, compass, outside-temperature indicator, universal garage door opener, illuminated visor mirrors, 115-volt power outlet, fog lights, roof rack, overhead storage, pinpoint led lighting, and alloy wheels. The 251-hp 4. 0-liter v6 630) is optional. Other sxt options include package 28l 2,760) with leather upholstery, heated first and second-row seats, power passenger seat, power rear liftgate, vehicle information center, additional interior lights, rechargeable/removable flashlight, bright bodyside moldings, sport suspension, and p225/65r17 tires. The premium group 1,995) includes tri-zone automatic climate controls (including rear controls), third-row power-folding seat, nine-speaker 506-watt infinity audio system, uconnect phone wireless link, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wipers. The security group 1,425) adds rear-obstacle detection, dodge's rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems, uconnect phone, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic headlights. The family value group 695) includes a removable center console, sunshades for second and third row, and remote engine starting. The sxt entertainment group 2 2,220) comes with a rear dvd entertainment system with two nine-inch rear screens, a six-disc cd changer, usb connection, uconnect tunes, and a rearview camera. Uconnect tunes 675) is available as a stand-alone option. Uconnect gps 1,300) includes uconnect tunes, plus a navigation system with voice activation and real-time traffic, rearview camera, six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, uconnect phone, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With rear dvd entertainment, customers can order sirius backseat tv 495). Front side airbags are not available. Optional safety features include a rearview camera, rear obstacle detection, and the rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems. walkarounda minivan shape does not lend itself to artistic sculpture. A description of the overall shape of this current generation of the dodge grand caravan wouldn't sound too much different from a description of the 1982 model. There is a big box behind, where all the people and cargo fit, and a smaller box in front, for the engine. That very efficient outline defines every minivan on the road.  the dodge grand caravan is boxy, but it's attractive in an suv kind of way. The hood is less fairly flat, and it bears character lines. The grille is very upright, making the dodge crosshair grille look like that of a dodge truck, especially in chrome. Sixteen-inch wheels are standard. The grand caravan is a big vehicle, with a 202. 5-inch overall length and a 121. 2-inch wheelbase. interiorthe dodge grand caravan leads the minivan field when it comes to interior convenience, capability and versatility. Chrysler has been working to give its minivans a competitive advantage in these areas for a long time, and those efforts show.  the interior materials are lackluster, however. Hard plastic dominates the dash and door panels. Everything fits together well, but it doesn't make for a luxurious look and feel. We quite liked the look and feel. The black vinyl trim and satin aluminum-look plastic didn't look rich, but nor was it ugly. Among them is the convex conversation mirror, which is handy for talking to those in the rear seats without having to turn around. We like this feature.  we had six 10-year-old soccer players test the grand caravan's video player during a 90-minute drive to the game, and they liked it. The dvd was a snap to play, which is important because some of them, even those in much more expensive veh.

2005 dodge dakota review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, bigger, with the only optional v8 in the class. introductionthe all-new 2005 dodge dakota represents yet another bold move into the truck market for dodge. With sales of basic small trucks in steady decline, dodge has redesigned the dakota as a much larger, much edgier and more macho midsize pickup. The dakota is now the largest and by far the most powerful pickup in the segment.  dakota competes against ford ranger, chevrolet colorado, gmc canyon, toyota tacoma, and nissan frontier. As with full-size pickups, competition for compact or mid-size trucks is hot. Though the ranger is dated, canyon, colorado, tacoma, and frontier are totally new pickups for either 2004 or 2005. Dakota's biggest advantage, other than its larger size, is the availability v8 engines, not one, but two of them. Its towing capacity has been expanded to 7,150 pounds, by far the most in the class.  built on a new frame, the new dakota is substantially longer than the previous model with styling that complements the recently redesigned durango suv and ram pickup. Getting in is easy and the redesigned interior is comfortable and convenient with controls that are easy to reach and operate.  underway, the dakota is smooth and quiet. The optional 4. 7-liter v8 burbles subtly in the background when cruising, but really scoots when the throttle is mashed. Yet its fuel economy is rated within 1 mpg of the standard v6's. The steering is light for easy maneuverability in crowded parking lots. Standard-cab pickups have faded in popularity as families are increasingly using pickups for recreation and as a transportation alternative to a car. So dodge doesn't even offer a regular cab dakota.  either body style and all three trim levels come standard with a 3. 7-liter v6. A 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine 785) is available on all models. A high-output version of the 4. 7-liter v8 is available for the slt and laramie trim levels. Both bodies are built on the same wheelbase. Club cabs now feature small doors to access the rear compartment, which the old model did not have.  club cab and quad cab are available in st, slt, or lariat trim levels. The st trim level comes standard with 16-inch wheels. Slt adds 16-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, tilt steering, dual rear seats, and power windows, locks and mirrors. In addition, the mopar aftermarket parts side of chrysler will have dozens of appearance, performance and entertainment options that can be installed at the dealership before or after delivery. The dakota retains the look of the dodge ram and durango, though it looks crisper and the grille is laid back, not vertical. All models come with front and rear tow hooks and tie-downs in the bed.  new to the dakota is an enhanced accident response system or ears, which automatically turns on interior lights and unlocks doors in the event of an air bag deployment, so that medical or response personnel can help faster and easier. interiorjust about everything on the inside of the dakota is new. There are new black-on-white gauges with chrome rings, with the central speedometer about twice as large as the other two gauges. The angular center stack houses the sound system, climate controls and vents. The rear seats are deliberately stepped up on their bases so that rear-seat occupants can see out more easily, and they are split into 40/20/40 folding sections with two rear cupholders.  the driver's seat, the only one we occupied for any length of time, looked good and felt good with its upper and lower support wings and good padding where it counts. Interior room, even for a tall, gangly driver like me, was excellent. It's the best in the class with this new cab size. A center console and lots of cubbyholes provide space to stash stuff.  new interior features for the 2005 dakota include standard head restraints and shoulder belts for all seat positions, taller head restraints, optional sirius satellite radio, and an optional hands-free communications system that uses bluetooth technology to make a compatible cellphone work as part of the truck. driving impressionthe test truck, which was configured for five with front bucket seats, was surprisingly quiet, smooth and civil in its behavior, more like a car than a truck inside. The glass is 20 percent thicker, mufflers are larger, and there's more sound insulation throughout the body and firewall than before. It drives bigger than it looks, with a hefty, ram-like way about it, a nicely muscular street swagger.  the 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine costs a little extra, but for us it was worth every penny, because fuel mileage barely takes a hit (epa-estimated city/highway 15/19 for the v6, 14/19 for the v8). The 3. 7-liter magnum v6 is rated 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. The 4. 7-liter v8 generates 230 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. At highway speeds it settled down into a nice background burble in overdrive fifth gear. Its strong torque means plenty of low-down grunt for pulling payloads of up to 1,800 pounds or towing up to 7,150 pounds.  the transmission has perfectly spaced ratios for trucking, and worked without complaint, roughness or harshness, even in high-rpm full-throttle upshifts. With only two occupants and no load, it really scoots from the stoplight despite the nearly 4800 pound weight of the quad cab 4x4. The chunky steering wheel feels great in the hands. The truck tracks extremely well, responds quickly to inputs, and stays hunkered down during mountain road playtime. Its 265/70r16 bfgoodrich wrangler tires were both grippy in corners and very quiet at highway speeds, adding a measure of plushness to the ride quality that we really appreciated. And the dakota start. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ Leather Seats✔ Chrome Wheels✔ Bluetooth✔ Aluminum Wheels

2008 dodge durango review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Big and brawny, yet surprisingly refined. introductiondodge durango looks tough but rides smooth. Big and bulky, it handles like a truck, but it's quiet, roomy, and comfortable, with a host of available technology.  this second-generation durango, which first appeared as an '04 model, slips between the chevy tahoe and ford expedition in exterior dimensions.  standard seating is for five, seven or eight (depending on model); optional second-row bucket seats provide six- or seven-passenger capacity. With all seats folded, there's more than 100 cubic feet of cargo space. And a properly equipped durango with the optional hemi engine is rated to tow up to 8,950 pounds.  a v6 is standard, but two v8s are available and both are superb. The flex-fuel 4. 7-liter v8 is upgraded from 235 to 303 horsepower for 2008 without a fuel economy penalty. It can run on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol (e85). It's smooth and powerful, but drivers who want or need more can opt for the celebrated 5. 7-liter hemi. Both v8s come with a five-speed automatic transmission that's smooth, refined, and responsive. The 303-hp 4. 7-liter v8 and five-speed automatic are optional 785) for those models, and standard for all others. Dodge's 335-horsepower 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is optional for 2wd slt 1780), awd slt 990) adventurer 990), and limited 795). It comes with a five-speed automatic transmission. A technology group for sxt 1030) includes a six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, remote engine starting, and laminated side glass.  slt 2wd 29,785) and slt awd 33,065) add upgraded yes essentials seat fabric that dodge says is odor and stain resistant, rear air conditioning and heater, eight-way power driver seat, two-passenger third-row folding bench seat, am/fm radio with six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, floormats, fog lights, and 265/60r18 on/off-road tires on alloy wheels. Slt is offered with the technology group ii 2105). It includes rear obstacle detection, rearview camera, alpine sound system, mygig entertainment system that replaces the six-disc cd changer, leather-wrapped steering with radio controls, uconnect wireless cell phone link, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.  the off-road oriented adventurer 2wd 31,710) and adventurer awd 33,930) come with all slt features, plus special off-road equipment that includes tubular side steps, reversible slush mats, a rubberized washable cargo liner with built-in cargo organizer, unique machine-finish wheels and mineral gray moldings and fascias. Adventurer also comes with a thule roof rack with a choice of six rack systems or a unique adventurer accessory kit. This model deletes the six-disc cd changer.  the mygig entertainment system is new for 2008. It includes a 6. 5-inch touchscreen and a 20-gigabyte hard drive to hold songs and pictures. It is included in the technology group ii for slt and adventurer and is standard on limited. The short front and rear overhangs, not typical of a full-size suv, contribute to durango's forceful expression. The short hood and flared fenders give the durango the look of a big-rig truck. That short hood leads into a steeply raked windshield and sloping roof. The front fenders make the hood look as narrow as it is short. Available 20-inch chrome-clad wheels are optional on both the slt and limited. All of these big rims are framed nicely by durango's bold wheel arches. The larger (6x9-inch) rearview mirrors are heated and folding on all models.  the roofline dips slightly at the rear, and the liftgate window curves in to meet it, which keeps durango from looking entirely like a box. Afterburner tail lamps are another dodge hallmark. The center high-mounted stop lamp is integrated smoothly into the rear roofline. A wide chrome applique accentuates the rear liftgate and features a centered, three-dimensional ram's head.  despite its modern aerodynamics, the durango takes its styling cues from the 1946-68 dodge power wagon, which was essentially a world war ii t214 military truck with a longer wheelbase and a civilian-style, fully enclosed cab. Large amounts of glass contribute to that feeling along with lots of cargo space. The yes essentials fabric in slt models is said to be stain, odor, and static-resistant, though we didn't see any mention of dog hair. The slt has orange-hued wood trim, while the limited presents a cleaner look with its brushed aluminum. And that trim is real wood and real aluminum, not plastic.  second-row bucket seats are available to replace the standard 40/20/40 bench. A second-row floor console is part of the bucket-seat package. As a compromise for customers who need to carry five adults, the 40/20/40 bench has a recline feature on all but sxt. Separate rear-seat climate controls are also standard on all but sxt, where they are optional; that's a useful feature when carrying dogs.  details are carefully thought out, including convenient grab handles cleverly molded into the stubby rear leg of the second-row seat, which ease climbing back to the third row. Once back there, a small bubble in the ceiling provides additional headroom for third-row passengers. A one-piece third-row bench is optional on sxt and standard on slt and adventurer. On limited models, the third row is split 60/40 for additional convenience. The second-row seat easily flips forward with the touch of one hand, and the seatback flops flat just as easily. This is no small virtue.  cargo capacity is quite impressive. Behind the second row of seats is 68 cubic feet of cargo space, equal to the total for many suvs. Put the second row down, and there's 102 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The distance between the wheel housings is 48 inches, so full-size sheets of plywood can be loaded flat. Speaking of loading cargo, this task is aided by the liftgate, which opens easily and is power-operated on limited models. The cargo floor is relatively low, thanks to the rear.

2014 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The dodge grand caravan is at the forefront of the minivan market offering the features and innovative seating that many families find indispensible. The grand caravan's most important feature, both from a usability stand-point and competitive stand-point, is that it is available with stow'n go seats. The second and third row seats can be folded into the floor. No more fumbling to release and remove awkward heavy seats and then trying to find a suitable place to store them. A 3. 6-liter v6 sends power through a six-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. All trims come equipped with a tilt and telescoping steering column, remote keyless entry and a tire pressure monitor. Standard safety features include traction control, stability control and antilock brakes with brake assist. The grand caravan crew is dropped for 2014. R/t receives standard power liftgate, security system and rear camera. Anti-lock Brakes
